Maurice Graham
DMin, LMFT

Dr. Maurice Graham is the founder of Shepherd’s Staff Ministry, Inc., and has spent over 35 years counseling and coaching ministers and their families. Grounded in the belief that you cannot separate the minister from the ministry, his work focuses on the vital connection between emotional health and vocational effectiveness.

In 2000, Dr. Graham’s early research revealed a critical insight: when ministers or congregations are unable to manage their emotions, both ministry impact and congregational health suffer. He was certified as an Emotional Intelligence Coach by Daniel Goleman and collaborated closely with the Hay Group in developing his pioneering framework, Pastoral Intelligence™.

Dr. Graham created the first-ever 360-degree multi-source assessment to measure emotional intelligence in clergy and developed his proprietary Call and Identity Coaching™ model to support pastoral growth and self-awareness.

In January 2024, he published his landmark work, Pastoral Intelligence: How Your Emotional Health is the Key to Your Church’s Health, bringing his decades of research and practical insight to a wider audience.

A licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Dr. Graham now dedicates much of his time to training coaches in the Pastoral Intelligence™ methodology..

Steve Booth
MDiv, DMin

Dr. Steve Booth serves as a pastoral counselor and clergy coach, drawing on the Pastoral Intelligence framework to help clergy navigate the unique challenges of vocational ministry. Through coaching, he guides ministers in exploring new dimensions of their call and deepening their pastoral identity.

In addition to one-on-one coaching, Dr. Booth and Rev. Maples facilitate PI Cohorts—small groups of 4 to 6 clergy who journey together over nine months to integrate emotional, spiritual, and vocational insights into their ministry practice.

Dr. Booth also offers life coaching and pastoral counseling for individuals and couples facing personal or relational challenges. He has extensive experience preparing engaged couples for marriage and is available to serve as a wedding officiant.

As both counselor and coach, Dr. Booth integrates spiritual and psychological resources, creating a compassionate and confidential space where clients can reflect meaningfully on their struggles. He believes that lasting transformation is rooted in the power of God, the grace of Christ, and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

Prior to joining Shepherd’s Staff Ministry, Dr. Booth served for more than 40 years as a pastor, Christian educator, pastoral counselor, and spiritual director. He is a graduate of Campbell University and Andover Newton Theological School (now Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School) and received his coach training through the Center for Congregational Health.

Terry Maples
MDiv/MACE

Terry’s passion is clergy coaching that builds trust-based relationships, honors the client’s own wisdom in discerning solutions, creates contexts that encourage change by attending to emotions, and poses powerful questions that foster self-awareness leading to action. Much of Terry’s personal and professional growth occurred during more than 40 years in vocational ministry—27 years as educator for three congregations (20 years in one congregation) and 13 years as a denominational executive.

An eager lifelong learner, Terry stretched himself through coach training with Dr. Eddie Hammett at Coach Approach Ministries, through family systems training with Dr. Larry Matthews via Leadership in Ministry, through peer-learning groups, and years of studying the Enneagram. Most recently, Terry received intentional interim pastor training through the Center for Healthy Congregations.

Rev. Maples holds an accounting degree from the University of Alabama (1979) and a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1983). Terry wrote a book published by Nurturing Faith in 2016, and he has crafted small group and Bible study lesson series and numerous articles for religious publications.

You may contact Terry at Shepherd’s Staff Ministry at 804-327-0707 or fill out the contact form.
